1954, when Gino Bartali retired, Gastone Nencini picked up his legacy as a supporter of Tuscany; but for his brave and bold way of competing, he was appreciated throughout Italy and France.
Here it is told of the strong paternal ostracism to which the cyclist racer did and of the son's strong desire to become a champion. He succeeded, much loved by the crowds; he earned the nickname "downhill leather", for his exceptional courage and technique. Unfortunately a grim misfortune, mostly errors of his technical directors, deprived him of the victory in the first 3 Tours of Italy of his dazzling career.
